8 years ago, I started a project, MusXpand, and the following year converted it into a business whose goal was to help independent artists distribute their music. The idea was to offer subscriptions that would help fans support their favorite bands.
As many music businesses, mine didn’t really fly so well, and I ended it a couple years later. Main issue was, people are not interested in listening only to a limited number of bands, but usually want to be able to play anything based on their mood of the moment. Hence the success of Spotify, Apple Music or Google Play subscriptions.
Nevertheless, I still think that there are real fans out there, which would give more to their favorite bands to get a special treatment back from them: getting the music before any official release and other common listeners, getting t-shirts or other merchandise for free or at a discounted price, etc…
I’m thinking of building such subscription plan(s) into this site, but I’d love to know if anyone’s interested before spending any time setting that up, so let me know…
